Objection: The Greek word for "for" the remission of sins in Acts 2:38 can be translated as "because", as in "because of the remission of sins", NOT FOR the remission of sins.
Answer: I looked at Strong's Concordance and I do NOT see anything about it being translated as "because". It is G1519 - eis, The KJV translates Strongs G1519 in the following manner: into (573x), to (281x), unto (207x), for (140x), in (138x), on (58x), toward (29x), against (26x), misc (322x). It DOES say that there are 322 additional miscellaneous ways of translating it. So I agree that it POSSIBLY could be translated as "because" in OTHER verses, but there is nothing in Scripture or context to cause us to translate it that way in this specific verse. When I look at all 18 bible translations at the BlueLetterBible website, one of the most known, used and respected bible websites on the internet, NONE of these 18 bible versions translate it as "because" in this verse.
Look at the context. Verse 37 in KJV says "Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?" These people were convicted of their sins and asked what to do. Peter did not reply that all they had to do was believe or say a prayer or "repeat these words after me". NO. But rather instructed them to be baptized. This was their conversion and method of Salvation into the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Look at the conversion of the Ethiopian man in Acts 8. The baptism was the method of conversion and salvation. It was NOT to picture that Christ had already saved him. NO. There is NO verse in the Bible that describes anyone being baptized AFTER they were already saved. In EVERY baptism verse, people were being baptized immediately after deciding they wanted to be Saved!
Objection: This is salvation by works, NOT by Faith and Grace alone.
Answer: Do you agree that to be Saved, you MUST agree to repent?
MUST come to agree that Jesus is GOD and is the Son of GOD?
MUST accept Him as LORD and Savior and as The Lamb of GOD?
MUST agree that Jesus replaces the blood of goats and lambs and replaces all animal sacrifices and circumcision?
MUST pray and ask HIM for forgiveness of sins?
Well if you agree with all 5 of the above statements, then I also could erroneously call that "a salvation by works". Very clearly you MUST do something. You cannot just sit back and think that you are saved only because you believe, yet you never repent, never pray, never ask for forgiveness, never stop animal sacrifices, never live your life for Jesus. Very clearly, there ARE steps/actions that we MUST take in order to receive Him as our Savior. We must come into agreement with Him and be born again of water. Jesus taught that. There is NO scripture that says that anyone was born again without water.
