Matt. 5:40-44 Give clothes, help, money, physical assistance, ... whatever is required. Give more than requested if you believe the need is greater than asked for. If you see a need, step up. Help others generously when you see a true need.
Similarly, don't walk past a problem if you can solve it. If you see something on the floor that someone might slip on, pick it up. If you see a hole, fill it, unless it is bottomless.
Don't ignore a task that needs to be done. Step up!
Tithes can be used to help others in need. They don't all have to go straight to a minister.
Mark 12:18-34 Love others as you would love yourself.
Mark 7:1-13 Don't neglect your household and family while claiming to be putting God first. You can do both, without neglecting either.
1 Tim. 5:1-21 On different situations of widows. Family should care for family/household if possible.
1 Kings 17:1-16 A poor widow was asked to give tithes as food & water to a man of God first. And she did. God took care of her family in return. Give first and you will have enough.
When you help people, do not say "I know that God will bless me," or "I believe God returns blessings." That opens a door to selfishness in your heart. Reject that thought, although it's true that HE returns blessings.
Rom. 12:1-11 Be humble & serve others. Give preference to others. In Southern US culture, when there isn't enough food left for everyone, everyone volunteers to let someone else have it.
Phil. 2:1-8 Look out for the interests of others.
