It DOESN'T SAY that all you have to do is to just believe. We MUST read the entire bible to fully understand doctrine. We can't read just John 3:16 and ignore all of the MANY verses on required obedience, required growth, required bearing of fruit, required baptism, required communion, required keeping of the 7th Day & Holy Days. There's a whole lot more to it than just a mental thought of believing.
1 John 2:4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
So very clearly we MUST KEEP HIS COMMANDMENTS. This is more than only believing. It shows the requirement of obedience & works.
Philippines 2:12 says "Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling".
So very clearly, we must do more than just believe. If a person is not an American citizen, he/she must do something in order to become a recognized, legal American citizen. They must fill out an application, pass a test and pledge an oath. It's not enough to just believe that you are a legal citizen. To become a licensed electrician, you must be trained & pass an exam. It's not enough to just believe you are an electrician & claim the title. Jesus freely accepts us if we accept Him & pledge allegiance to Him. That's Grace. But if we do not fulfill that allegiance & all of the obligations that come with it, then we lose our citizenship in The Kingdom. With Citizenship in The Kingdom, comes responsibility & required obedience. Matthew 25 teaches us that we are required to feed the hungry when the opportunity arises. We must also clothe those in need when the situation is presented. Those people in Matthew 25 who did NOT do these things thought they were saved. They believed. But they did not confess their sins of neglecting to do the works of the Kingdom. Jesus repeatedly taught that we are workers in the vineyard who are hired to do a job & required to bear profit/fruit. John 15 shows that people can become part of the vineyard/Kingdom, not bear fruit, then be cast into The Lake of Fire and lose their salvation. Acts 2:38 also commands repentance which is MUCH MORE than just believing.
