This is a clarification concerning how to keep the holy days, as we continue to grow in understanding.
As explained in the article "When Does The Day Start?" at http://www.isawthelightministries.com/daystarts.html 24 hour "day" time periods were originally sunrise to sunrise. The Israelites learned the "sunset to sunset" practice from the moon worshipping pagans during the Assyrian and Babylonian captivity. In this bible passage, it plainly says the Day of Atonement is the 10th Day! It is repeatedly stated as "the same day"! The confusion comes about where it says in verse 32 "ninth day of the month at even, from even unto even". This is the only "sabbath" or holy day where it uses this phrase of "even to even", other than the Days of Unleavened Bread which is a fast from leavened foods! ONLY commanded fast days are described in scripture as being observed "even to even". History shows that the Jews typically fasted only sunrise to sunset, not a full 24 hours unless it was a commanded fast. Therefore, for a non-commanded fast, they could get up early before sunrise and eat, then start fasting on a full stomach. But it would not be good to eat a big meal just before sunrise and then immediately proclaim your fast and say "I'm going to fast now", when you just finished stuffing your stomach! No, you must have your stomach already empty at sunrise, the beginning of the Day of Atonement to be a true fast of afflicting our soul! So that is why The Almighty wants you to start your fasting for this special Holy Day on the PREVIOUS evening on the 9th. But the actual Holy Day is the 10th as it says it is! So, The Day of Atonement is sunrise to sunrise as is all 24 hour days and Holy Days. But we observe this commanded fast from all foods from sunset the previous evening, until sunset on the Day of Atonement. The rest of the evening, although is STILL the Day of Atonement, is not a commanded period of fasting. Jesus is gracious to require us to fast for Atonement for only 24 hours, not 36 hours. However, we should rest from sunset on the 9th until sunrise on the 11th. The fast is 24 hrs, from sunset on the 9th until sunset on the 10th. It would not be good to be working while fasting during the evening on the 9th. But the Day of Atonement doesn't begin until sunrise on the 10th. Therefore the part of resting continues until the end of the Day of Atonement at sunrise of the 11th day. You rest for 36 hours, but fast for only 24 hours. That way, you can eat during the last few hours of Atonement, representing that you are no longer separated from the Garden of Eden and Tree of Life, but now reconciled unto The Creator and redeemed and will be brought back to Paradise in the new heavens & new Earth.
